For you

  • You'll meet one of the co-founders — Owen or Elliot — at the front of the academy.
  • We'll spend thirty minutes on the mat — walking through the basics, talking about what you're looking for, and answering whatever you want to ask.
  • You don't need to bring anything. Just wear something you can move in.
  • No pressure to commit to anything afterwards. The conversation about what comes next happens in person, on your terms.

Common questions

What if I've never done a martial art before?
That's the most common starting point at Apex. The intro is one-on-one with a coach, at your pace. And when you do join group classes, the room is genuinely welcoming — our members are good at making new people feel like they belong.
Will I get hurt?
No — not in the intro. The techniques we cover are the safety basics: how to fall correctly, how to stand and move on the mat, the fundamentals every member learns first.
Is there actually no commitment?
No — genuinely. The intro is free and there's nothing to sign. If you want to join, we'll go through the options with you in person. If you don't, we'll send a short follow-up by email and leave the next move to you.
What if I'm shy or nervous about meeting new people?
The intro session is one-on-one — no group of strangers, no introductions in front of a class. Just you and a coach, on the mat for half an hour. Most people who book are a little nervous beforehand; almost no one is by the end of the session.
